We’re looking for a passionate and highly motivated designer who loves layouts to work on high-quality publications. Your previous experience is magazine publications will be highly advantageous.
You’ll be responsible for everything from typesetting to executing captivating designs from manuscript to print, as well as creating integrated publicity materials.

Responsibilities
- Conceptualising and designing entire books from edited manuscript through to print, within budget and deadlines.
- Colour correcting, and accuracy in reviewing plotters, F&Gs and advances.
- Developing excellent relationships with authors, photographers, illustrators and stylists.
- Clearly, accurately and concisely commissioning and briefing photographers, illustrators and stylists.
- Art directing photographic shoots.
- Updating reprints.
- Archiving titles.
- Preparing advance publicity material on new titles, as well as timeously supplying material upon request for Sales, Marketing, Publicity and Digital departments, with regards to TI sheets, catalogues, and social media and online assets.
Requirements
The successful candidate must have/be:
- A graphic degree or diploma or related DTP courses.
- Excellent English and Afrikaans – highly advantageous.
- At least 5 years’ experience in magazine or book design, preferably in lifestyle-related publishing.
- Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and literacy in Apple Mac imperative.
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat Pro.
- The ability to evaluate illustrative and photographic material.
- Strong typographic skills.
- Fast learner, especially with new software and systems.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to evaluate illustrative and photographic material.

- Deadline driven and team orientated.
- Mobile – ability to attend shoots on different locations
- The ability to work on a number of projects simultaneously, both independently and as part of a team.
