We have a superb, fully on-site opportunity for a Journalist to take on the role of Senior Editorial Lead, joining the Communications department at a not-for-profit private-public company in Cape Town’s CBD.
This dynamic NPO is on the lookout for a highly experienced journalist to bring their writing and editorial expertise to their vibrant team.
This is a hands-on role that requires a seasoned professional with a solid background in magazine or newspaper journalism, along with exceptional copy-editing and editing skills.
 
From crafting print articles and digital content to producing annual reports and social media posts, the Editorial Lead will play a pivotal role in shaping the organisation’s communications.
 
Reporting to the Communications Manager, the role also includes a social media management component, managing three platforms, including creating and uploading of social media posts, stories, reels and video content.

Requirements
The successful candidate must have/be:
 
  • Industry relevant tertiary qualification
  • At least 8-10 years’ journalistic experience
  • Previous experience writing for magazines or newspapers with copy editing and editing expertise – NON-NEGOTIABLE.
  • Exceptional editing and copy-editing skills – can work across different forms of media, i.e. digital newsletter, quarterly lifestyle newspaper, and digital and print magazines
  • Well-versed in the social media milieu, possessing a keen interest in, and knowledge of, social media platforms
  • Abreast of trends and proficient in social media, including creating and uploading of social media posts, stories, reels and video content across all relevant platforms
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a small team; consistently bringing innovative and fresh ideas to the table
  • Versatile writing skills with the ability to write anything from in-depth articles around business, property, lifestyle trends or retail news
  • Experienced in all aspects of newspaper and magazine production processes
  • A keen sense of news and knowledge of the features editing process
  • Experienced at editing layouts on Adobe InDesign, able to create innovative PowerPoint presentations, and manage Excel; Canva would be an advantage
  • Able to work under pressure and deliver quality work to deadline.
