A terrific, fully in-office opportunity is available for a highly conceptual Mid-Weight TTL Copywriter with agency experience to join the in-house creative agency at a leading retailer in Cape Town.
Our client is looking for a talented Copywriter to craft innovative TTL campaigns that break away from the typical product-and-price approach. Your goal will be translating marketing and branding strategies into innovative and exciting campaigns and will see you conceptualise and develop impactful ideas, write compelling scripts and rationales, and collaborate with a vibrant creative team of 6 to brainstorm ideas, articulate messaging and bring fresh these concepts to life for a variety of campaigns.
This position calls for a strong storyteller who thrives in a high-volume, fast-paced environment, where proactive, creative work gets produced.
You’ll need to be adept at varying the voice, style, and other characteristics of messaging based on the industry, company, or target audience. Our ideal candidate boasts up-to-date knowledge of communications and client-related industry trends, someone who stays current on the appropriate style guidelines and brand voice for consistent messaging. You’ll also have excellent research skills. Show us your knack for writing persuasive, audience-focused copy and experience working on Retail, Alcohol, or FMCG accounts to seal the deal.

Responsibilities
- Working with the creative team to create exceptional creative work.
- Using key messages to develop work for multiple communication channels, including ATL, digital and non-traditional.
- Producing a variety of high-quality copy solutions, from punchy short-form to persuasive long-form.
- Interpreting creative briefs to develop concepts for execution with assigned brands.
- Researching and understanding a client’s needs and target audiences, through online searches, reviews of existing research, interviews with subject-matter experts, and in-person meetings.
- Writing original copy and edit content for a range of marketing and communications materials.
- Collaborating with a team of account managers and creative staff, from concept development to delivery of final product.
- Presenting copy concepts and final deliverables to internal team — and to client representative when requested — and participate occasionally in client pitches.
- Revising copy based on internal feedback.
Requirements
The successful candidate must have/be:
- Relevant tertiary qualification
- 5 years’ experience in copywriting (for Retail, Alcohol or FMCG) for advertising or marketing agencies
- Retail & FMCG experience is highly advantageous
- Conceptual
- Demonstrated knowledge/understanding of storytelling principles across various channels and digital
- You must have previous advertising agency, copywriting and retail experience
- Able to write rationales, motivations, headlines, radio scripts
- Exceptional writing and research skills
- Ability to work independently or with a team to meet deadlines
- Excellent organisational skills and multitasking ability
- Critical thinking skills
- Ability to influence people through creative ideas and written work
- Team player
- Good interpersonal skills.
