Get the “whole package” with this exciting in-office opportunity for a Mid-Weight Packaging Designer to work at a renowned global homeware company based in Somerset West.
This is a truly global opportunity as you will work with, and across, the brand’s global and regional Marketing, and New Product Development teams, while being based here in South Africa. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. So, we’re looking for a Packaging Designer who projects a professional image, someone who communicates, speaks and presents well in all interactions with colleagues globally.
As Packaging Designer, you play a critical role in the origination, development, and design of all brand packaging artwork. You are a graphic design industry professional with a strong portfolio of work and a minimum of 4 – 5 years’ experience, working either in a FMCG company or design agency environment. Any experience with premium or aspirational brands will definitely be a plus.
We’re looking for a detail-oriented individual, passionate about packaging design, with the rigour to maintain consistent design standards across the brand’s entire product portfolio. You are well versed in both concept development and taking artwork to a print ready stage.
The role will require you to have an intricate knowledge of print production techniques and the ability to engage with third party printers in finding optimal production processes for the brand’s packaging portfolio.

Responsibilities
- Packaging concept, design and artwork delivery
- Create packaging designs for new products based on global brand standards
- Evolve packaging artwork to a harmonized global standard in line with new brand guidelines
- Work closely and align with the Group Packaging Engineer and Group Sustainability analyst
- Produce approved artwork designs in print ready format.
- Liaise with third party printers and suppliers to specify substrates, print techniques, paper
- engineering and special finishes.
- Manage the sampling process with third party printers and suppliers.
- Custodianship: Maintain the brand’s global packaging library, upload artwork to a centralised database, and execute any running changes to existing artwork
- Maintain the brand’s global brand guidelines document.
Requirements
The successful candidate must have/be:
- Degree or Diploma in Graphic Design
- Minimum of 4 – 5 years’ experience in packaging design, either in a FMCG company or agency environment
- Professional image – able to present well with global colleagues
- Strong planning, organisation, priority setting, and project management skills
- Ability to multitask effectively; changing priorities based on timeline expectations
- Excellent communication skills
- Microsoft and Adobe Creative Suite essential
- Solution-oriented mindset
- Any experience with premium or aspirational brands will be a plus
- Diligent
- High integrity
- Detail-oriented mindset is key for this role
- Ability to work autonomously, and multi-task in an agile environment
- Fluency in English is a must
- Stay up to date with emerging trends, software, and techniques relevant to packaging design
- Prior packaging design for premium brands is an asset – Desirable
