You’ll steer thought leadership pieces, press releases, white papers, blogs, articles and social media copy, always finding the newsworthy angle.
Using your extensive experience, journalistic precision and B2B PR flair, you’ll map global trends; geopolitics, climate disruption, security alerts, economic shifts, into locally relevant narratives that help travel brands navigate choppy waters and drive real business impact.
We need a curious, agile storyteller with some newsroom or editorial experience, someone who lives and breathes content strategy, pitch-to-publish, and staying three steps ahead of the story.
You’ll lead ideation sessions, pitch killer concepts, liaise directly with clients, and work hand-in-glove with the services teams to ensure every campaign lands on time, on budget, and on brand. Responsibilities
- Lead story ideation and content strategy sessions with in-house and client teams.
- Pitch and produce high-quality longform and short form written content (press releases, thought leadership pieces, newsletters, web copy, and social media content).
- Translate global trends and local developments into insightful narratives for travel businesses and their audiences.
- Liaise directly with clients to interpret briefs and deliver best-in-class content solutions.
- Work alongside client services teams to ensure content meets both strategic and storytelling goals.
Requirements
The successful candidate must have/be:
- Industry relevant tertiary qualification
- Strong journalistic/editorial foundation
- Strong B2B PR Writing experience
- Confident client communicator; able to defend ideas while remaining flexible
- Excellent writing and sub-editing skills; able to work across tones and styles
- Experience working in or with newsrooms/editors (either print, digital, radio or broadcast)
- Mature understanding of global current affairs and how they intersect with the travel and tourism sector
- Able to work independently, take strategic direction, and contribute meaningfully to content growth
- Understanding of the life cycle of news, from ideation and pitching to publishing, and can evaluate a story’s broader implications for a brand operating in travel
- High degree of adaptability and deadline rigour
- Editorial contact network in South African media landscape – a bonus
- Experience navigating integrated campaigns spanning digital + earned media channels – a bonus
- Journalistic training, a strong editorial mindset – essential
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
- Ability to move from longform thought leadership one minute to 150-character Instagram captions the next
- Able to come up with newsworthy angles
- Agile, responsive, original, intellectually curious, a strong personality, fast on the uptake, and passionate about crafting content that is accurate, credible and engaging
- Comfortable working remotely but collaboratively
- Not afraid of AI tools, but able to humanise AI-generated copy so it feels fresh, warm and on-brand.
