Mid-Senior Packaging Designer: FMCG: In-House Studio – Cape Town

We have an amazing, on-site opportunity for a Mid – Senior FMCG Packaging Designer to join the Packaging Design team at a leading retailer’s in-house studio near Cape Town’s CBD.

Experience in Packaging Design is a must and solid previous design studio experience in packaging is ideal. We are looking for a conceptual Packaging Designer with a proven track record and experience in the different packaging categories.

Based at the company’s HQ, you’ll enjoy working in a studio designed to encourage creativity. The ideal candidate is customer-focussed/aware with a “can do” attitude.

Responsibilities

  • To deliver world-class advertising across the brands by delivering the best creative solutions for clients to support the achievement of their marketing, communication, and financial objectives.
  • To develop brand-consistent creativity for a variety of print materials that support key marketing initiatives across all design platforms.
  • To conceptualise and execute high-priority projects across multiple brands.
  • To drive brand consistency in line with the relevant marketing communications by adhering to CI guidelines.
  • To work closely and collaboratively within a team, Traffic, Client Service, and the Clients to ensure a smooth workflow and delivery of work while ensuring the creative briefs are met.
  • To be always aligned with the status of work in progress to ensure deadlines are met and manage own timelines.
  • To present all creative artwork making sure work maintains an excellent level of quality and design.
  • To support junior designers and DTP to ensure timeous delivery and correct interpretation of creative briefs/projects.

Requirements

The successful candidate must have/be:

  • Design qualification in Visual Communications/Graphic Design from a recognised institution (Degree or Diploma) or proven working track record in the Retail design field specifically in the Brand and Packaging field.
  • At least 6 years’ Graphic Design experience in Brand & Packaging Design.
  • Solid agency experience.
  • Experience in developing Brands conceptually; and the ability to carry concept through to finished art is advantageous.
  • Experience designing and rollout of all Packaging Design materials.
  • Solid understanding of industry print/technical standards.
  • Strong conceptual/Design skills and style.
  • Ability to do 3D mock-ups/renders for presentations.
  • Mac literate, as well as technical knowledge and proficiency of design software essential (Latest Adobe Creative Suite: Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).
  • Photo retouching & editing – would be advantageous.
  • Organised and with excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to assignments is essential.
  • Excellent time management, ability to multitask and work well under pressure.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team player.
  • Positive ‘can-do’ attitude.
  • Willing to be a team player and put in the extra effort.
